Of war and idyll
The true, the beautiful, the good – is written above the entrance door of German museums. In our exhibition project, we dedicate our examination especially to the beautiful and the ugly. We deal with this on the basis of the 1st and 2nd World War and the Iraq-Iran war, as well as with the times after – the „idyllic“ interwar period. With the current developments, war is more present than ever. In this context, we examine war as a historical and international phenomenon through paintings, drawings and films.
East-Western Divan
painting installation, 2009-10, oil on book cover, 15 books, each 13,5 x 17,5 x 3 cm
The back covers of a complete edition of Goethe’s works, which also includes the poem collection West-Eastern Divan, served as a painting surface. Twelve motifs from my photo collection of the Iran-Iraq war were used as a template, as were three other motifs from the 1st World War.
